I once sat at a table with a family who spoke a different language. We had come together over the death of a bomber crew. I had the story of the crew’s life and this family held the story of the crew’s death. Much celebrating was done that night, wine glasses dotted the table. The elderly man repeatedly emphasised the words wine, vin, vino and how they are very similar to understand regardless of language. That simple analogy brought us together. We were not so different as outward appearances might suggest. We shared a history, we had become family.
